Full Blown Frenzy - Friday Recap
The 2024 West Coast Pro Modifieds season kicked off on Friday at Walt Austin Legacy Race in Kent, Washington.
The event schedule initially had three rounds of qualifying on Friday with eliminations on Saturday, however, an wet forecast for Saturday forced a condensed schedule on Friday, which included Round 1 of eliminations.
Eight cars made qualifying laps on Saturday, with hometown favourite Garrett Richards leading the way with a 3.954 at 191.38 MPH. Steve Goddard qualified second, Rick Barnhart third and Eric Halverson fourth, with Scott Blake, David Kowalski, Rian Hayward and Ryan Griffin rounding out the bottom half of the field.
In Round 1 of eliminations, Rick Barnhart’s 4.22 defeated Dave Kowalski’s 4.57, Rian Hayward knocked off Steve Goddard and Eric Halverson won the pedalfest with his 4.66 defeating Scott Blake’s 4.86. The biggest upset of the first round was #1 qualifier Garrett Richards experiencing a parts failure during his warmup, and while the team thrashed in the pits to attempt an engine swap they unfortunately ran out of time, handing the win to Ryan Griffin.
Weather pending, Round 2 and 3 of eliminations will take place today at Pacific Raceways and if you are interested in checking the event out, tickets can be purchased directly from Pacific Raceways.
