Doorwarz11 - Sunday Report
The quickest field in the history of the West Coast Pro Modifieds did not disappoint on championship Sunday, with numerous exciting matchups from Round 1 through the Finals.
Round 1 began early Sunday afternoon at Mission Raceway Park, and was highlighted by the near upset of the event, when #15 qualifier Ryan Griffin went 4.345 against #2 Khalid Al Balooshi’s slowing 4.334, however, unfortunately Griffin had gone 0.006 red to give the matchup to Al Balooshi.
Round 1 also saw a pedalfest in a repeat matchup of last year’s West Coast Outlaw Shootout final, featuring Alberta’s Tom Reithmayer and BC’s Dave Kowalski. Both drivers struggled to find traction and unfortunately in the process Reithmayer had a brush with the right wall. Thankfully Tom was okay and we looking forward seeing him back in action once the car has been repaired.
Round 2 featured three matchups with side by side three second passes, as Jordie Lazic’s 3.826 defeated Dave Kowalski’s 3.938, Khalid Al Balooshi’s 3.784 defeated Garrett Richard’s 3.963, and Rian Hayward’s 3.862 beat Jay Syvertson’s 3.953.
The semi finals saw BC’s Jordie Lazic getting by Bahrain’s Khalid Al Balooshi, and Justin Bond beating Rian Hayward, which setup a near repeat of last year’s Doorwarz final - a Bahrain1 Racing entry versus a 24/7 Compression entry.
The final round saw Mission, BC’s Justin Bond beat Rutland, BC’s Jordie Lazic, as Justin claimed his first Doorwarz title.
